Bail granted to main accused in Bhatta Parsaul case

The Allahabad High Court today granted bail to Manveer Singh Tewatiya, prime accused in the Bhatta Parsaul case relating to a clash between farmers opposing land acquisition and policemen at the Noida village which claimed four lives.
Justice Shashi Kant Gupta granted bail to Tewatiya, in a case lodged against him under the stringent Gangsters' Act.
Tewatiya has been in jail after being slapped with a number of criminal cases.
The order was passed following the submission by Tewatiya's lawyer Rahul Chaudhari that the applicant, who has been in jail since July, 2011, has already been granted bail in all other cases against him, including those under the Arms Act and the Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.

Tewatiya was named in an FIR lodged at Dankaur police station of Gautam Buddh Nagar district following the violence of May 07, 2011, which had killed two policemen and as many agitating farmers besides leaving many others, including the then District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police, injured.
The clash had erupted following a police visit to the village for securing the release of employees of the state roadways transport corporation taken hostage by the farmers who were protesting acquisition of their land for construction of a highway.
