Bajwa seeks special status for border areas of Punjab

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today sought special status for border areas of the state sharing boundary with Pakistan saying he would meet the Prime Minister and other party leaders in this regard.
Bajwa said he would take a delegation of MPs and MLAs of border districts to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to seek special status for the region.
The delegation would meet the Prime Minister and other senior party leaders after the Parliament session re-commences on April 22, he said addressing a meeting of Congress workers here.
On the issue of increase in power tariff, the PCC chief opposed an average 9 per cent hike for all categories of consumers in Punjab.

"This is first gift of the SAD-BJP government to people after the coalition's Goa Chintan Shivir (which concluded yesterday)," he added.
Bajwa said rising power tariff would inflate the input cost and slow the production in industrial sector.
He also attacked the SAD-BJP government on the law and order front saying it had deteriorated in the past few months.
