He discussed the bamboo cultivation project with forest and agricultural officials of the Maharashtra state government along with Tata trust manager based in Mumbai as well as the Director of the Delhi-based Centre for Indian Bamboo Resource Technology here on Friday.
Later he told reporters that initially, cultivation of bamboo would be taken up on a pilot project basis to assess various aspects like conditions of the land and interests of farmers as well as revenue yield.
Director of the Centre for Indian Bamboo Resource Technology Sanjay Karpe said on the occasion that soil conditions would be studied after which one of the 78 species of bamboos suitable for local conditions would be cultivated.
