Bangalore University offers 4-year "restructured" UG programme

Even as a standoff persists between the University Grants Commission and Delhi University over the Four Year Undergraduate Programme, the Bangalore University is offering a 4-year "re-structured' undergraduate programme with multiple exit options from this year.
With the raging row in Delhi, BU was quick to clarify that its new programme with the choice-based credit system (CBCS) cannot be compared to FYUP of the DU and it would not tamper with the existing 3-year system but only add value.
Under the BU programme exit options, the student will get associate degree at the end of the second year and a bachelor's degree after the third year. Students exiting the first year of the post-graduate course (fourth year) will be awarded an honour's degree.

Stating that the new system is flexible, BU officials said it will provide multiple exit options to the students.
The University officials also said unlike in Delhi, students here will not have the compulsion to choose their major and minor subjects before joining the course.
BU will continue to offer three main optionals for the first three years and award an overall Bachelor's degree at the end of the third year. However, DU awards Bachelor's degree with one major after three years.
At the University Academic Council meeting here on Tuesday, BU Vice Chancellor Thimme Gowda said the university was not tampering with the existing three-year structure but only adding value and making it more flexible.

"We are not disturbing the 10+2+3+2 structure," Gowda has said.
