Bangladesh asks India for liberalized visa regime

Bangladesh today stressed the need for liberalised Indian visa regime during a meeting between its Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque and his Indian counterpart Sujatha Singh as they discussed key bilateral issues including long-pending Teesta water-sharing agreement.
"All bilateral issues - trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, border management, security, water issues and need for improved connectivity in the regional context were discussed," official sources said here said.
Haque, who is here on a three-day official visit, has already expressed concern over the drastic fall of Teesta river water flow to Bangladesh during his meeting with Water Resources Secretary Alok Rawat yesterday.

Teesta remains a contentious issue of India-Bangladesh relationship as their governments failed to ink a deal on sharing its water mainly due to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's strong resistance.
"There was an emphasis on facilitating easier people-to- people contacts," the sources added.
In addition, issues of interest in international fora also came up for discussion which included exchange of views on the post-2015 development agenda, climate change and other matters which figured in the UN, the sources said.
