Karim, who called on the Chief Minister at his residence here this morning, praised him for "effectively tackling the issue of insurgency in the state".
"Assam is now developing fast due to improved law and order situation", he added.
Karim and Gogoi held discussions on several issues and hoped that there would be improved ties between the two neighbours, official sources said.
They discussed ways to increase cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors, trade and explore the commercial potential of jute industry, cement and power generation for the development of both Assam and Bangladesh.
Transportation on the Brahmaputra, a major river of both Assam and Bangladesh, also came up for discussion with Gogoi pointing out that he has always stressed the need to improve transportation facilities across the Brahmaputra.
The need for joint effort to control flood and erosion by Brahmaputra was also discussed at length by both Karim and Gogoi, the sources added.
