Bangladeshi delegation meets Azad

A Bangladeshi delegation led by Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali today called on senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and concern for the two countries.
Assuring full support of his party towards strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Bangladesh, Azad, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said "Congress Party has always valued Bangladesh as a time-tested friend and neighbour and that it would make every effort towards further expanding cooperation and collaboration".
The delegation included High Commissioner of Bangladesh Tariq A Karim along with senior officials.

A communique from Azad's office said discussions were carried out in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
Both the leaders recounted the very strong, friendly and historical ties between India, especially the role played by Indira Gandhi in the liberation of Bangladesh.
It said that Bangladeshi Foreign Minister while acknowledging the contribution of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in strengthening bilateral relations, stated that a new momentum was given to bilateral ties after the visit of that country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India in January 2010.
The release quoted Ali as saying that India's liberal financial support to Bangladesh is providing fillip to infrastructure building and economic activity leading to increased growth and income generation.

He especially made a mention of the historic protocols that were signed to implement the Land Boundary Agreement of 1974 signed between the two countries.
