A total of 27,117 volunteers, mostly students, stood with arms raised holding red and green blocks to form the national flag of Bangladesh depicting a red disc on top of a green field, at the National Parade Ground here.
After a couple of short trials, the participants completed the flag formation at 1:30 pm.
The participants stood making the formation for 6 minutes and 16 seconds, though the requirement for setting a new world record was only 5 minutes, an officer of Guinness Records told the cheering crowd.
The previous record was set by students in Pakistan last year during the Punjab Youth Festival.
