FDA Joint Commissioner (Konkan) Suresh Deshmukh told PTI that a tempo carrying various brands of gutka including 'Goa' and 'Vimal' brands were seized at Shilphata by a team of FDA officials after a tip off.
The vehicle bearing an Andhra Pradesh registration number contained as many as 1,000 bags of gutka in it, besides some pouches, he said.
He said that the police registered offences against the vehicle's driver and owner, as well as manufacturer of the banned gutka.
They have been charged under Section 188, Section 273, Section 328 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code and various other sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
