Barley prices firmed up by Rs 29.50 to Rs 1,792 per quintal in futures trade Friday on widespread buying by investors.

Marketmen attributed the upsurge in the barley futures prices to brisk demand from beer making industries amid low stocks position due to fall in supplies.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, barley delivery for November spurted by Rs 29.50 or 1.67 per cent to Rs 1,792 per quintal, with an open interest of 430 lots.

Meanwhile, the delivery for October rose by Rs 16 or 0.92 per cent to Rs 1,764 per quintal, with a business turnover of 7,530 lots.
