The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur today expressed keen interest in developing cricket in the North East region, including Meghalaya.
"The Board is committed for development of cricket in the North East states," Thakur, who was on an official visit to the state's capital, said.
He also met officials of Meghalaya Cricket Association at the cricket ground, Polo, in the city.
Thakur said for the purpose of developing cricket in the region, he would tour all eight states in the North East and assured resumption of all tournaments from January next year.
He announced sanction of Rs 50 Lakh in principle for construction of an indoor practice facility.
The BCCI secretary urged the state to make efforts to harness talent and develop a pool of young cricketers.
Earlier, secretary of Meghalaya Cricket Association, Naba Bhattacharjee outlined the pending issues of the association, while stressing on the need for resumption of the Associate members' tournament and urging for sanction of the indoor practice facilities at Shillong, proposal for which was submitted in 2012.
