Saying that the country is "passing through a dangerous phase of politics", senior JD (U) leader and former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today asked party workers to be "on guard against politics of communal frenzy".
"The country is passing through a dangerous phase of politics in which efforts are being made to destroy the unity of the people by spreading hatred and communalism. This will weaken democracy. Such elements will have to be identified and their conspiracy have to be foiled," Kumar said at meetings with leaders and members of of mahadalit, SC, and minority cells of the party.
The former chief minister said the state government is working continuously to bring the marginalised people to the mainstream of the society. He also pointed out the reservation provided in the three-tier Panchayati Raj system has benefited the people belonging to SC and mahadalit categories.
Kumar said that Bihar will excel at the front of employment and industries if it gets 'special status', but the Centre has gone back on its poll promise of granting it.
"We will raise the issue of special status and Centre not keeping its word at Sampark Yatra starting from November 13 across the state. In the first phase we will hold political meeting in the districts, while in the next phase we will hold rallies as per the assembly constituencies," Kumar said.
JD(U) state president Vashitha Narayan Singh was also present at the meetings and said the state government has given special focus on the welfare of SC and mahadalits by creating the posts of 'Vikas Mitra', 'Shiksha Mitra', and 'Tola Sevak' to spread education and awareness among them.
