A befitting reply will be given if any attempt is made to divide the country or anti-national slogans are raised, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today amid a raging row over what constitutes "anti-national" activity.

"We are not a weak government. We will give a befitting reply if any attempt is made to divide the country or if anti-national slogans are raised," he said addressing Kisan Kalyan Rally here to mark the launch of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojana.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working "relentlessly" for the welfare of the farming community.

Recalling former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'.

Singh said farmers toil hard in the field and it was the responsibility of everyone to back them in times of trouble.

He refuted SP government's claim that the Centre did not give adequate compensation to Uttar Pradesh in the aftermath of
unexpected heavy rains and hail storm that caused massive damage to crops.

The Centre provided Rs 2,086 crore to UP and it was the responsibility of the state to make proper use of it, he added.
