The 40-year-old announced he will live on just USD 1.50 a day as part of the Global Poverty Project's Live Below The Line campaign.
The actor-director, who is a long-time charity campaigner, took to Twitter to show his support, reported Aceshowbiz.
"1.4 billion people live on less than USD 1.50/day. I'm joining Live #BelowTheLine on behalf of @easterncongo. Will you?," he tweeted.
The challenge is meant to "give a glimpse into the lives of 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line every day - and who have to make USD 1.50 cover a lot more than food," the organisation's website read.
"Thor: The Dark World" actor Tom Hiddleston posted a video of himself on his fifth day of the challenge. The clip shows Hiddleston in his kitchen with a simple baked potato for lunch.
He also tweeted his meals throughout the challenge, which included boiled rice with vegetables, and an omelette with kidney beans.
