The West Bengal government today sought to know what the industry requirements were from the food processing sector to encourage investment in the state.
"You (read investors) will not come to invest looking at my face or being Rabindranath's or Satyajit Ray's birthplace or for charity. You will come for profit. So, you tell me what do you require in terms of support," state food processing industry & horticulture, minister Abdur Rezzak Mollah said today.
He was addressing a CII organised food processing conclave in city.
He said that the state government was prepared to meet all the requirements of industry especially in terms of infrastructure and logistics.
Food parks in the state were facing a lukewarm demand.
The Jangipur food park had recently even reduced price of land from Rs 90 lakh to Rs 60 lakh a acre after complaints from investors.
The 100-acre park has just one food processing company operating currently. The Malda food park, an initiative of the Bengal government, is spread over 38.12 acres and of which 29.40 acres are distributable.
Meanwhile, the government has said it is now offering single point license for any agri related investment.
