This was evident after the violent incidents in Bhangar in South 24-Parganas district and Makra in Birbhum district where the police failed to act properly and timely, state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury alleged.
Two people were killed in a clash between two factions of Trinamool Congress in Bhangar while three were killed in a skirmish between TMC and BJP members in Makra.
Chowdhury was speaking to reporters after a five-member Congress team, headed by him, paid a visit to the nearest relatives of Papan Mondal and Ramesh Ghosal who died in an intra-Trinamool Congress clash at Bhangar in South 24-Parganas district recently.
Chowdhury said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should have visited the village where the relatives of the two killed lived and talked to them.
"Mamata should have visited Bhangar to remove fear from the minds of the people living there ever since the violent clash took place," he said.
