Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil enter last eight

Defending champions Bharat Petroleum commenced their campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Army XI in a Pool A game of the Dabang Mumbai 50th All India Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament here today.
BPCL and Central Railway, the third team in the pool, are now assured of a place in the quarter-finals as Central had earlier defeated the Army 4-2 and would take on BPCL to complete the league engagements.
Later, India star Dharamvir Singh scored his second hat-trick in as many matches to power last year's runners-up Indian Oil to a resounding 7-1 victory over South Central Railway in Pool D.
Indian Oil also made the last eight with their second win in the three-team pool.
BPCL, with current India players S V Sunil, Birendra Lakra, Manpreet Singh and Mohd Amir Khan along with former stars Tushar Khandekar, William Xalco and Ravi Pal in the ranks, enjoyed total domination over Army XI.
Somanna Pradhan scored two goals for BPCL whose other goal-scorers were Gurpreet Singh (penalty corner), Khan and Sunil, with a superb solo effort.
Army managed to get a goal back when Robin converted from their fourth penalty corner in the second half.
Indian Oil, propped up by current India players Dharamvir Singh, Khotajit Singh and V R Raghunath along with a few other former internationals, ran roughshod against.
Dharamvir led their charge with yet another hat-trick while skipper Deepak Thakur scored two goals and Raghunath and Gurjinder Singh scored one each from penalty corners to round off the tally.
The lone goal for the railwaymen was scored by Rajupal in the first half.
