Tarvinder Singh Bhasin today took over as Chairman of engineering exporters' body Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) of India.
Bhasin will work with the central government, states and policy makers of key markets like the US, Europe, Africa and South East Asia to restore growth in the engineering exports, which have been hit hard by global economic slowdown, EEPC said in a statement.
"Despite global headwinds, we will look for new markets, especially in Africa where Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown initiatives to enhance economic engagement.
"EEPC India... Will work closely with the Commerce Ministry, Indian missions in the African continent to make some solid breakthroughs," Bhasin said.
Being the number one segment in the overall Indian merchandise exports, the engineering sector is vital to the national economy in terms of employment generation and earning foreign exchange.
Engineering exports, which account for over 23 per cent of India's total exports and had been more buoyant, fell by 25.43 per cent in September, 2015 over September, 2014.
Bhasin is the Managing Director of Bharat Parabolic Springs and Bharat Metal Crash, which produces Automotive Leaf Springs & Metal Crash Guards used in infrastructure industries.
