Bhupen Hazarika Photo and Film Archive to be set up

Assam government would soon set up the Bhupen Hazarika Photo and Film Archive and Research Centre to focus on all areas in which the maestro excelled and reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region.
The Centre would be also committed to the acquisition, preservation, restoration and dissemination of North-East India's socio-cultural-political-historical and economic heritage, Minister of State (Ind) for Information and Public Relations Basanta Das said today.
Das, presiding over the first meeting of the Centre's Governing body said that it has been proposed to set up as per the recommendations of the Chief Minister's budget proposal.
The centre would comprise micro filming Room, studio, digital library, amphitheatre, conference hall among other facilities, besides keeping track with the fast-paced modern photo and film techniques.
The resolutions adopted in the meeting include the appointment of a Project Director for its speedy implementation, to engage a private consultancy firm to render technical know-how, design etc and to request the Revenue Department and Kamrup district administration to expedite the allotment of land.
The meeting was attended among others by IPRD Secretary Anupam Kumar Roy, Director IPR Ranjit Gogoi, renowned photographer Jayanta Dutta, artists Dilip Tamuly and Nani Boprpujari, film makers Manju Bora and Md. Abdul Mazid, actor Nipon Goswami and writer Anuradha Sarma Pujari.
