The Oscar-winning movie earned a total of USD 221 million in the US alone, thus becoming Walt Disney Animation Studios' third biggest domestic release of all time.
Even greater, the film's worldwide total has successfully surpassed that of "Tangled", making it the studio's third biggest global release after "Frozen (2013)" and "The Lion King".
In China, "Big Hero 6" has become Disney's biggest animated release, earning USD 51 million since being released in the country on February 28.
Based on Marvel comics of the same name, "Big Hero 6" tells the story of "the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada as they team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes."
The film, directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, debuted in theaters on November 7, 2014 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
