Bihar Food department today made it mandatory that vehicles transporting foodgrains under PDS system should have GPS or else no payment would be made to the transporter.
This was announced by Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Shyam Rajak at a review meeting here.
The minister told district supply officers that no payment should be made to transporters whose vehicle was not fitted with GPS system, a Food department statement said.
Besides, he warned of strict action against erring transporters.
Rajak instructed that the foodgrains for the month of August should be lifted positively by July 31.
The minister reviewed progress of work in preparation of database of about one crore families and found fault in pace of work in Muzaffarpur and Arwal districts in this regard and ordered action against district supply officials in the two places.
He also expressed concerns over difficulties faced from FCI (Food Corporation of India).
It came to notice that lifting of foodgrains was halted at Phulwarisharif depot since July 16 due to labourers strike.
Besides, wet wheat was supplied in Saharsa and supply of foodgrains in several districts was irregular in the current month, he said.
Rajak instructed officials not to lift poor quality foodgrains from FCI godowns and also warned the FCI against laxity in supply of grains for PDS.
