One thousand higher secondary schools would be constructed in Bihar every year for improving standard of education in the state, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today.
The government has set up a target of setting up 4,500 high secondary schools in the state in the next five years, he said on the third foundation day of Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation (BSEIDC) Limited.
The chief minister inaugurated 150 school buildings built by BSEIDC during the past three years.
He also inaugurated computer monitoring software installed in 1000 schools.
In addition to the building, the corporation has to construct library, toilet, sports ground and common room too.
The quality of the school building is being tested with the help of mobile phone set.
The CM stressed that since Bihar falls in seismic zone, the buildings should be earthquake resistant. He gave example of Japan, where despite frequent earthquakes, even sky-scrapers do not fall and "come to original shape after bending a bit like pendulam".
Kumar said his government was according top priority to expand educational infrastructure, as literacy is directly related to population control.
"It has been noticed that where ever the literacy rate is high there is low growth rate of population," he added.
Education minister P K Shahi said besides completing 150 school buildings, the corporation is working on over 500 sites.
