Bijit Saikia of Congress died today in a private nursing home here, his family members said.
Saikia (75), was a resident of Tezpur and had taken ill a few months ago after an accident. His condition had deteriorated and he was treated in two hospitals here.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Saikia, who represented Tezpur constituency, was the industry minister in the Hiteswar Saikia cabinet from 1991 to 1996.
Saikia was also an actor and was seen in many TV serials and Assamese feature films.
Condoling his death, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Saikia's sincere and dedicated service to the state will always be remembered.
