Bill passed in WB Assembly for proper use of unutilised land

The West Bengal Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2017 was passed in the state Assembly today to facilitate proper utilisation of unused land leased out to entrepreneurs by the state government for industrial purpose.
State Parliamentary Affairs minister Partha Chatterjee, who moved the bill in the House, said no entrepreneur could retain government leased out land for industrial purpose, keeping them unutilised for an indefinite period.
Since the state government was against forcible land acquisition and land parcels leased out to entrepreneurs were remaining unused, Chatterjee said in such cases the government would have no alternative but to recover and redistribute those land parcels.

Referring to closure of many industrial units on such leased out land, the minister said redistribution of those land parcels could help set up other industries.
The bill was moved in the House to amend the West Bengal Land Reforms Act, 1955.
