Jharkhand government today agreed to the opposition demand to refer the Jharkhand Amity University Bill to the Select Committee, which would give its report within a fortnight.
The CPI(ML-Liberation) MLA, Vinod Kumar Singh, demanded that the Bill should not be passed without guidelines.
When HRD Minister Geetashree Oraon insisted that the Bill be passed as Amity University has a standing in the country, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) leader Pradip Yadav, BJP's C P Singh and Trinamool Congress MLA Bandhu Tirkey, who supports the Hemant Soren government, also demanded that the Bill be sent to the Select Committee of the House, else there be a division of vote on it.
Seeing the thin presence of the ruling MLAs on the last day of the monsoon session the minister did not insist further and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Prasad Singh agreed to the opposition demand to refer it to the Select Committee.
The Committee would give its report within fifteen days.
