Statues of freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda will now appear without shackles, years after he had been depicted in chains.
Observing that statues of Birsa Munda wearing chains puts a negative impact in the mind of the youth, Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today issued orders to replace all such statues with those without chains with immediate effect.
The Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs department issued the notification asking all idols, statues or portraits of Birsa Munda displayed in government departments, different government authorities or institutions be replaced with the freedom fighter being depicted shackle-free.
