A 50-year-old businessman was found murdered at his residence in Central Delhi's New Rajender Nagar area this evening, police said.
The deceased, identified as Tarun Bajaj, was found dead with his throat slit and multiple stab wounds on his body.
The murder was reported in an S-Block residence where Bajaj, who had a cable TV business, lived with his wife Ritu, a legal adviser with the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation.
According to police, Bajaj was alone at home when the incident took place and the door was found closed from inside.
"One of his employees, Sant Ram, had come to meet him regarding some work at around 3:30 P.M. He rang the doorbell several times, but no one responded. He then called Ritu.
"When Ritu returned home at around 5:45 P.M. And opened the door, Bajaj's body was found lying in a pool of blood bearing several stab injuries," said a police officer.
The body was naked and slightly covered with a bedsheet, said a police official who was one of the first to reach the spot.
A CFSL team has visited the spot and gathered forensic evidence and fingerprints from the crime scene.
Police suspect that at least three men were involved in the murder as three glasses were found on a table in the drawing room of the house, which suggests that the victim knew the assailants.
Investigators have asked Bajaj's wife to provide details of the people her husband dealt with. Sant Ram and Bajaj's other employees are being questioned, police added.
"Robbery doesn't seem to be the motive for the murder and, the way he has been killed, it seems that the murderers had come with the intention of killing him.
"We are investigating the case from all possible angles," said a senior police official, adding that a case of murder has been lodged in the matter and inquiries are on.
