BJD's Barik defeats independent to become CMC deputy mayor
Press Trust of India Cuttack Ruling BJD corporator Ajay Kumar Barik was today elected as deputy mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Barik defeated independent corporator Hrishikesh Pradhan by a margin of 32 votes in a direct contest.
While Barik got 45 votes, Pradhan polled only 13 votes in the 59-ward council, state municipality administrator S K Mishra said.
After the February 6 civic body elections, BJD had romped home to form the council winning in 36 wards of the city.
The 48-year-old Barik later said he would work sincerely for providing better civic amenities to the people.
