BJP creating stumbling block in regularistion process: Cong

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's Parliamentary Secretary Mukesh Sharma alleged that BJP was in favour of carrying out demolition in the colonies regularised by the government to make space for creation of public utilities.

"The BJP wants demolition to take place so that they can sympathise with the victims and win the assembly polls next year. But our government will not allow demolition of even a single house," Sharma said, addressing a public meeting.

Claiming that BJP was trying to politicise the issue of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, the four-time MLA from Uttam Nagar said Delhi government is committed to develop the 895 colonies on par with other residential areas in the city.

"The party has spoken in favour of providing amenities like school, hospitals and other utilities by way of demolishing 25 structures in the unauthorised colonies which we will not do," the Uttam Nagar MLA said.

After years of delay, Delhi government last week regularised 895 unauthorised colonies which are home to around 35 lakh people.

Pressing for regularisation of all 1,639 unauthorised colonies which were given provisional regularisation certificates in 2008, Delhi BJP yesterday said the party will launch a movement to get their demand accepted.

Meanwhile, residents of unauthorised colonies today thanked Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for regularising their settlements. The residents came to Dikshit's official residence and conveyed their gratitude.
