BJP today accused Uttar Pradesh government for "not" taking action against SP leader Totaram Yadav, against whom a case has been lodged for allegedly capturing a polling booth during Panchayat elections in the state.
"While Yadav's gunner has been suspended, village chowkidar has been removed and action is being taken against others, no action has been taken against the Chairman of Processing and Construction Cooperative Limited (PACCFED)," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
He said, "Not only the government is keeping mum on the issue, Yadav shared the dias with a powerful minister in Akhilesh government."
Pathak alleged that the government machinery was making all efforts to "save" Yadav.
Yadav and 14 others were booked for allegedly capturing a polling booth in the district during second phase of panchayat elections.
A video went viral on October 16 showed Yadav allegedly stamping ballot papers in bulk at Raipur polling booth in Bewar block as poll staff, with police remaining a mute spectator.
FIR was registered against Yadav along with 14 named and 15 unidentified persons, SO Bewar Narendra Singh said.
However, Yadav denied the accusation and said there were several "discrepancies" in the video.
"As you can see that man shown in the video is fat, whereas I am lean and thin. Besides, I never wore 'payjama' in my entire life. If this is proved, then I will retire from political life," he had said.
