The government's decision to grant funds for the modernisation of madarsas is a move to appease minorities, Leader of Opposition in state Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde told reporters here.
"Congress has done it to win over the votes. After elections they are definitely going to forget it," Tawde said.
He demanded that similar to a fund to be allocated for the modernisation of madrasas, the state government should also give financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Jain, Vaishnav and Sanskrit schools for their modernisation.
The Maharashtra Cabinet yesterday approved a proposal by the Minorities department for allocation of funds to modernise the Islamic seminaries in the state.
