"While there are 1639 unauthorised colonies, according to information available with the corporation, the government has been discussing the regularisation of just 895 of them. When will the government regularise all such colonies without any penalty or development charge," Arya, Leader of the House in South Delhi Municipal Corporation, said.
Of the 895 colonies identified by the Delhi government, 312 built on private land have been made legal, the remaining 583 that are built partly or fully on government lands will be regularised only after the recovery of cost of government land, according to a letter issued by the Delhi Secretariat in September 2012.
"The Delhi Chief Minister is playing with the sentiments of the people on the issue. The false promises of regularisation are just a gimmick before the elections," he said.
Also, Arya has demanded that the 583 colonies be regularised as they are without any changes or penalty being charged.
"Due to new demarcation of colonies, some houses are now out of the boundary of these colonies and the Residents Welfare Association are refusing to sign on the demarcation and pay for the charges to make layout plans," he said.
Of the 895 unauthorised colonies listed, 484 come under the jurisdiction of SDMC.
