A notification to this effect was issued by the state government today and formal announcement in this regard will be made in the Upper House tomorrow.
However, Tawde, who was recently re-elected as MLC, alleged the government made his appointment after a delay.
"After the opposition pointed out that Leader of Opposition has not been declared, government in a hurry made the announcement," Tawde said.
He also said a one-day session of the Upper House will be held tomorrow to elect chairman of the Council.
To a query, Tawde said, "It is a practice followed since British era that new chairman of the House is escorted to chair by chief minister and leader of opposition".
