Leaders of BJP's Odisha unit today observed fast here as part of the party's nationwide protest against the recent Parliament washout.
The sit-in, led by BJP's national vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Om Prakash Mathur, was held at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya park near the state party headquarters here.
Prominent among those who joined the sit-in were BJP's national general secretary Arun Singh, party's Odisha unit president Basant Panda and legislature party leader Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo.
Hitting out at the opposition parties, Mathur said the Congress and other parties, including the BJD, are stalling Parliament as they are scared of the growing popularity of Narendra Modi government and the developmental works and welfare schemes that are being implemented by it.
Accusing the Congress and others of adopting a negative approach, the BJP vice-president said their disruptive methods are not going to affect the people who are convinced that BJP alone is capable of bringing progress in the country.
Slamming Congress for disrupting Parliament, he said the opposition party has always been playing vote bank politics.
It is obstructing the proceedings of Parliament as it is against development, he said.
Senior BJP leader and Union minister Jual Oram also went on a day long fast and organised a sit-in at Sundargarh as a part of the nationwide protest by the party.
Similar protests were organised by the party in different districts of the state.
