Ruling BJP MLAs raised the issue of Rajasthan's law-and-order in the Assembly today and asked the state government take initiate action against unlawful activities.
During the Question Hour, Alwar MLA Gyan Deo Ahuja asked home minister Gulab Chand Kataria to initiate an inquiry against the Alwar SP for alleged misconduct and corruption.
Babu Singh Rathore the legislator from Shergarh accused the government of inaction in a clash between Rajput and Jats in Jodhpur last month during Zero hour.
He claimed that illegal liquor trade was flourishing in the region and the caste clashes that broke out at Samrau in Jodhpur were its fallout.
Property worth crores was damaged, several shops and houses were set on fire. All this happened right under the nose of police, the Shergarh MLA said and demanded strict action against the accused to ensure that such incidents do not get repeated.
Answering on the issue, Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said the clashes that occurred were disgraceful as it happened even as police were present at the spot.
After examining the video footage of the incident, 29 people were arrested and efforts are on to arrest others. The SP and his deputy were removed, he said.
The home secretary and the additional director general of police were investigating and would submit the report in a month, Kataria said, adding action would be taken against the culprits and departmental deficiencies would also be probed.
Kataria said members of the House should make efforts so that such incidents do not get repeated.
