The winter session of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha came to an end today, two days before schedule, amid din by BJP members who took expection to minister Azam Khan's comment that how prime minister would provide security to women when he was not able to provide to his wife.
During Zero hour, BJP members through an adjournment notice demanded a debate on Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav expressing concern over ministers and officials taking commission in development works.
"The members have raised this issue based on the newspaper reports which are not taken note of in the House," Parliamentary Affairs minister Mohd Azam Khan said.
He, in an apparent reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife moving an application under the RTI over her security in Gujarat, said "...When the 'badshah' of the country cannot provide security to his 'mallika' what will happen to the women of the country who were looking up to him with lots of hope".
BJP members took exception to the minister's comment saying they were against the traditions of the House.
Leader of BJP legislature party Suresh Khanna said, "Azam Khan unnecessarily provoke the members". After which BJP MLAs barged into the well of the house raising slogans in front of the chair.
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to pacify BJP members saying House was ready for a debate on ministers and officials taking commissions as well as the 'badshah' not giving his 'mallika' her rights, but it irked them and they again took to the well shouting slogans.
The Speaker's assurance to the members that he would get the unparliamentary comments deleted had no impact on the BJP legislators, who continued sloganeering.
Meanwhile, the Speaker rushed through the agenda amid the din and adjourned the house two days before the previously announced schedule.
An agreement on wrapping up the session had also been reached during the meeting of business advisory committee this morning.
The BJP members through their adjournment notice had raised the issue of SP president's comments during the foundation laying of Lucknow-Agra expressway on Sunday.
