The women leaders of the BJP are keeping mum on the Kathua and Unnao rape cases due to the fear of the dictator" the Congress alleged today.

All India Mahila Congress president and party spokesperson Sushmita Dev said BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi brought "disgrace to the nation" with her remarks that the two incidents were being selectively highlighted.

Dev said the perpetrators of crime would not ask a woman her religion before committing such an act.

She said the Rahul Gandhi-led candlelight vigil at midnight yesterday was aimed at highlighting crimes against women across India and was not limited to the Kathua and Unnao incidents only.

It is a matter of shame that the women lawmakers of the BJP are silent due to the fear of the dictator," she said.

Dev asked Lekhi what did she do when the one-stop centres established after the Nirbhaya case were scrapped by the NDA government.

I condemn her (Lekhi's) statement. She is a disgrace to this nation and its women, she said.

Earlier in the day, Lekhi alleged that Bar Association of Jammu president B S Slathia, who led a protest in Kathua, was senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's polling agent during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Lekhi raised the issue at a time when BJP MLA Kuldeep Sinagh Sengar is an main accused in the Unnao rape case, Dev said.
