BJP slams govt over relief package for rain-hit Vidarbha

BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Vinod Tawde today criticised the Centre as well as the Maharashtra government over the meagre financial provision for the rain-hit areas in Vidarbha region.
"The state government demanded adequate compensation from the Centre for the rain-affected areas where more than 175 lives were lost and 1,000 livestock animals were washed away in August, but the party was disappointed that Center allocated only Rs 921 crore," Tawde said here.
About 26,000 hectares of agriculture land was affected by the heavy rains this monsoon in Vidarbha.
The BJP leader, who along with state BJP chief Devendra Phadanvis earlier this week submitted a cartload of documentary evidence to Madhav Chitale commission which is conducting inquiry into Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam in the state, said the opposition will raise the issue in the winter session of the state legislature.
