Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao favoured celebration of Telangana Day before the Assembly elections, but now he had changed his stand under pressure from the AIMIM, said Telangana BJP president K Laxman here.
The BJP has been demanding that September 17 be celebrated officially as Telangana Liberation Day, as on this day in 1948 the Hyderabad state ruled by the Nizam merged with the Indian Union.
"If there is any government in India or in the world which cannot celebrate its Independence Day, it is the Telangana government," a BJP release quoted Laxman as saying at a party meeting on the 'Liberation Day'.
The BJP would organise a rally on September 17 "to expose the government", he said.
