BJP to launch campaign in UP to groom new members

The new members will be a force for the party in protesting misrule of Samajwadi Party, said BJP

In a bid to realise its dream of forming the next government in Uttar Pradesh, BJP will be kickstarting a special three-month campaign to groom its two crore new members in the state as active workers.

"There were over 33 lakh members of the party in the state but during the membership drive we set the target of making 1.5 crore members and ultimately made 2 crore members. Now we will launch a special three months campaign to groom them as party workers. They will be a force for the party in protesting misrule of Samajwadi Party," BJP Uttar Pradesh Incharge Om Mathur told PTI in an interview.

"We have already shown our strength in Lok Sabha polls by winning 73 seats (including two of Apna Dal) out of 80 seats and we dont have doubts in repeating this Lok Sabha performance in 2017 polls too and forming a majority government in UP," Mathur, who had taken charge from Amit Shah as state incharge said.

About the party's preparation for "Mission 2017", Mathur said there are 1.4 lakh booths in the state where the party will be deploying 1.2 lakh "booth pravasis", who will be responsible for propagating party's ideology and activities on that particular booth.

"Till now we have finalised 94 thousand booth pravasis. This team will act as a catalyst to catapult BJP to power," he said.

On being asked about selection of party candidates, Mathur said the process of selection of candidates for 403 seats has started.

"There would be changes and those working at local level would be given preference by going through their background," he said.
