Referring to the Calcutta High Court striking down the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011, as unconstitutional and void, state BJP president Rahul Sinha said in a letter to the Governor that the state government should be convinced to hold the tripartite meeting instead of going to court.
He said, BJP was of the view that an appeal in the Supreme Court would only prolong the agony of the farmers of Singur, who unwillingly parted with their land and also did not accept compensation.
"If this effort is exercised, This will send a very good message to prospective investors and show that the government is industry-friendly," Sinha said.
He said that Agriculture minister and Singur MLA Rabindranath Bhattacharya also held the same view.
Describing the governor being 'incorrectly advised' on the signing the Singur legislation, as an extremely serious matter, Sinha said "we feel that responsibility be fixed for rendering incorrect legal advice.
"We strongly condemn and demand strongest punishment to the guilty persons...And we beseech you to prevail upon the state government to act," the letter said.
