Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Vinod Tawde, who led the protest, said, "We will not tolerate the inconvenience caused to people who travel between Panvel to Vashi due to the toll plaza."
"The toll plaza, which will loot people, should be stopped," Tawde said at Kharghar, in adjoining Navi Mumbai.
Kharghar and Kamothe residents also joined the protest and shouted slogans, demanding the government to do away with tolls.
"We will be overburdened if this toll plaza comes into being. Residents are being asked to pay to travel within their own area. This is wrong and the state should not allow a plaza to come up here," a BJP worker said.
