The youth wing of BJP will celebrate Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 90th birthday tomorrow in a novel way by rolling out a nation-wide campaign on literacy and distributing study kits to children in slums.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will launch the 'Atal Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan' on December 25, with its activists distributing copies, pencils, books and bags among under- privileged children in slums and inform them about the importance of education.
Teachers and parents who motivate their children to study would also be honoured on the occasion.
BJYM president Anurag Thakur said society will not develop unless education is imparted to all. Praising Vajpayee's farsightedness, he said his initiative of world's biggest literacy programme -- 'Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan' -- emphasised on the need for compulsory primary education.
"It is sad to note that the world's largest democracy still has maximum illiterate population. According to the 2011 Census, the literacy rate in India is just 74.04 per cent, which is way behind the average 84 per cent of the entire world," he said.
The BJP youth leader said it was important to convey the importance of education to young children in one's life. The Yuva Morcha activists will ensure spreading the message of education among the masses, he said.
