'Black Panther' director does not have to be black: Mackie

Anthony Mackie has come down against positive discrimination by saying that race shouldn't be a factor into who is picked to direct "Black Panther".
When asked if he thought an African-American director should helm the Marvel Studios film, the "Falcon" actor was keen to put talent ahead of all other considerations, reported Digital Spy.
"I don't think it's important at all. As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn't get a horse to direct 'Seabiscuit'.
"The thing is I don't think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story. I think it's all about the director's ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think men can direct women, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends. May the best man - or woman - win."

"Selma" director Ava DuVernay was previously offered the "Black Panther" film, but decided that she "didn't see eye to eye" with Marvel on the project.
Straight Outta Compton's F Gary Gray also eyed the project before choosing "Fast and Furious 8". "Fruitvale Station" director Ryan Coogler is the latest name rumoured for the film.
