AAP MLA Somnath Bharti today differed with his party-led government in Delhi on the issue of blocking websites of app-based taxi operators, saying "blocking the sites are not solution".
The AAP government had recently requested the Department of Electronic & Information Technology (Deity) to block web-based apps of taxi operators Uber, Ola Cabs and TaxiForSure, alleging that these companies are not complying with a ban order imposed by it.
Thereafter, a committee was formed in Deity to look into the matter. The committee recommended blocking the apps and Deity asked the Department of Telecom (DoT) to issue the order regarding the same.
"Blocking the site is not solution. Solution is to legitimise taxi service. What I am saying is that in the interim period till the policy gets drafted and till this industry gets regularised... But then I am not in favour of blocking.
"The government should frame policy on time. This order should not be kept in force for long and government should frame policy quickly be it Delhi government or any other government," Bharti said here.
The DoT has issued a letter to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block websites of taxi operators Uber, TaxiForSure and Ola Cabs, following a request from the Delhi government.
