Boatman arrested for JU student's drowning

Kolkata police today arrested the boatman, from whose boat 19-year-old Rounak Saha accidentally fell into the waters of Hooghly while sitting with four of his friends yesterday evening.
However, body of the Jadavpur University Computer Engineering second year student could not be fished out though the Force's Disaster Management Group continued search till this evening, police said.
Boatman Sheikh Saifuddin has been arrested under Indian Ports Act 54 (Penalty for disobedience to rules and orders of the Government) after Raunak's parents lodged a complaint today evening regarding "negligence" on part of the boatman and four of his friends who were accompanying him during a boatride on the Hooghly yesterday evening.

Police, it was learnt, has also detained four of those friends of Rounak on the basis of the complaint.
Sources in the Kolkata Police said that statements of the four friends of Rounak were "quite contradictory".
Rounak, a resident of Salt Lake and a second year student of computer science in the Jadavpur University, drowned at around 3.30 pm shortly after he got into the boat at Panighat.
His friends were safe, the police said adding that the search to locate the body would resume tomorrow morning.
