Bodies of husband, wife found under mysterious circumstances

Bodies of a husband and wife were today found under mysterious circumstances on either side of a canal near their village in Burdwan district, police said.
Sheikh Ramjan (46) was found hanging from a tree on one side of the irrigation canal, while the body of his wife Fatuman Bibi (37) was lying on the bank on the other side near Chikanhati village.
A knot made out of a part of Fatuman's sari was found around her neck which also bore a deep wound possibly caused by a spear like weapon, police said.
The couple's eldest son Suraj said his parents were supposed to go to a 'fakir' yesterday to get medicine as his father had been suffering from some stomach problem.

Ramjan had earlier taken medicine from a sadhu but that did not work, rather he started talking incoherently.
He had called up Suraj in the evening saying they would return home after visiting a relative, the son said.

Suraj said there was a missed call from his father's mobile to his phone late at night but he had fallen asleep by then.
Police said villagers found the bodies early in the morning.
The bodies were sent for postmortem and a case of unnatural death has been registered.
