"The girl went missing in the wee hours today and her parents, who live at a JJ cluster in Batla House, had been searching for her since then," a police official said.
The police did not rule out the possibility of sex assault or abduction, but said anything can be confirmed only after the post mortem.
Around 12 pm, some workers who were carrying out some repair work near the river saw the body after which they raised an alarm, police said, adding that the girl was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The body was sent for post mortem.
"It is only after we receive the post mortem report, we can ascertain the actual cause and time of death," the official said.
Senior police officials also rushed to the spot and investigation of the case is underway, the official added.
