A bomb threat call proved to be hoax today after a thorough search at the integrated bus-stand here did not reveal any explosive substance, police said.
Police sniffer dogs and bomb squads scoured the bus-stand at Mattuthavani here after the 108 ambulance control room at Chennai received an anonymous call last night informing that a bomb had been planted and it could explode at any time, they said.
The call turned out to be hoax as a thorough search of the buses and passengers, who arrived till early this morning, did not reveal any explosive substance, they said.
Initial investigation revealed that the mobile phone call had originated from Tiruchirapalli and the caller had switched off his phone and now they were in the process of identifying his address, police said.
This is the second bomb hoax call since April this year, they said, adding that the first one was made by a diabetic patient from Chennai who informed that bombs had been planted at Sri Meenakshi temple here.
He was let off with a severe warning, police said.
Police warned that severe action would be taken against those making such hoax calls, adding that they had strengthened the intelligence surveillance system to identify such callers.
Police are maintaining strict vigil in the state in the wake of the twin bomb blasts on board the Kaziranga express at the Central Railway Station in Chennai on May 1 that claimed a woman's life and injured 14 others.
