The briefcase was found near a canal beside the SINP, an institution of basic research and training in physical and biophysical sciences, which functions under the Department of Atomic Energy.
Bomb disposals squad rushed to the spot and policemen cordoned off the area.
However, no bomb was found in the briefcase which was seized, the police said.
